The Crate Lounge Sofa was originally designed in 1934 by Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld as a creative way to reuse surplus wood from shipping crates. Now relaunched in a modern collaboration between Rietveld Originals and HAY, the classic sofa is made from solid pine wood and treated with a water-based lacquer and is available in several stylish colors. The transparent construction and carefully balanced proportions are true to Rietveld's original design philosophy and make the sofa both easy to assemble and sustainable in production.

The Crate Lounge Sofa has a low, reclining shape with a gently sloping backrest and seat and comfortable armrests ideal for relaxing in the garden, on the terrace or in the cottage. For added comfort, the sofa can be combined with matching cushions in selected fabrics.
