Almost everyone interested in design has at some point heard of Børge Mogensen, perhaps been lucky enough to own some of his beautiful and timeless designs. Børge Mogensen, or Børge Westergaard Mogensen as his real name, was born on April 13. April 1914 in Aalborg and died in Gentofte on October 5, 1972. Børge Mogensen was trained as a cabinetmaker, where he received his apprenticeship certificate in 1934, aged just 20. After passing his apprenticeship test, he studied at the School of Arts and Crafts' Furniture School and the Academy of Fine Arts' Furniture School from 1936 - 42. In addition to creating some of the most famous and timeless Danish design icons, he also served as a teacher at the Academy's furniture school.
Some of the great characteristics of Børge Mogensen's design were good craftsmanship and a great awareness of the limitations and, not least, the possibilities of the materials he worked with. This knowledge and passion was one of the greatest characteristics of his work as an architect and furniture designer.
