In 1939, Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen won an open architectural competition to design a new town hall, library and theater in Søllerød (now Rudersdal). For the town hall, they designed a wedding room with accompanying furniture, including a special sofa for the expectant couple to sit and wait before the ceremony. The sofa's high, vertical back and sides were designed with the ceremony in mind, creating both privacy and an atmosphere of devotion.
