The MANHATTAN pillow collection from Elvang is inspired by New York's Manhattan and the straight streets that run perpendicular to each other, framing square apartment buildings. Through Elvang Denmark's choice of suppliers, we are involved in a development project for alpaca herders. The project involves Elvang dealing directly with the alpaca herders and avoiding unnecessary middlemen. The direct contact between Elvang and the alpaca herders provides the opportunity to educate the herders in the care of the alpacas, breeding and shearing techniques while offering them the full market price. Elvang Denmark offers the herders an additional bonus if they shear the animals correctly. When the alpacas are sheared correctly, the wool can be sorted much easier and sold for a higher price.
All in all, Elvang's project gives the poor alpaca herders a higher income for their work.
