LEIF SYLVESTER PETERSEN was born on April 18, 1940 in Copenhagen. He is a painter, graphic artist, musician and actor. Leif Sylvester originally trained as a carpenter, but has simultaneously worked as a performing musician and artist.
His debut came in the late 1960s when he was deeply disappointed by the launch of established art at the artists' fall exhibition. So was Erik Clausen, and together they began to exhibit on the streets and eventually also to perform social satirical jokes. Sylvester continued to make visual art, but at the same time he became more involved in theater and music. Clausen&Petersen made a number of records, and Sylvester formed the band Sylvester og Svalerne, which also released several records. Leif Sylvester and Erik Clausen wrote the well-known song "Mormors kolonihavehus" together. Today, Leif Sylvester lives from his art, but over the years he has appeared in a number of popular films and TV series. He is known for his roles in the films "Circus Casablanca" "Middle of the Night" "Pusher II" "Oldboys" and "The Kartell" and he had a very distinctive role as Tom in the TV series "TAXA". Most recently he has exhibited at Sophienholm. Among his decorations in public spaces is the bronze sculpture "That was it" (2002) on Sylvester-Petersen's family grave at Assistens Cemetery in Copenhagen.
He runs the gallery Python, which is located in central Copenhagen.
